Meet Ray

Ray Thompson

Ray Thompson is a community development strategist, facilitator, and educator who helps organizations and neighborhoods turn local assets, relationships, and ideas into practical action. Based in Chicago, he brings professional experience from respected social service agencies and educational institutions, including Uhlich Children’s Home (UCAN), Lawrence Hall Youth Services, the University of Illinois Chicago, Perspectives Charter Schools, and Chicago Public Schools.

He holds a BA in Sociology from the University of Illinois Chicago and an AM from the University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration, with a focus on community change, education, and youth development. Ray also serves as a steward and board member of the Asset-Based Community Development Institute at DePaul University.

His approach is rooted in the belief that sustainable community change begins within the community itself. Rather than treating marginalized communities as problems to be solved from the outside, Ray works to uncover local strengths, build stronger relationships, and create the conditions for meaningful collaboration.

Ray is most energized by helping local people shape sustainable and scalable change in their own neighborhoods. Through intentional engagement, inclusive strategy, and a deep commitment to community-centered practice, he helps residents, organizations, and institutions reconnect around shared purpose and move toward lasting impact.
