Communities don't fail because they lack passion. They fail because concentrated power has predictable ways of dividing, absorbing, delaying, and outlasting collective action — and most organizations aren't built to withstand them.
The Collective Power Framework is a research-grounded, practically sequenced system for understanding how elite power disrupts organizing and what communities can do about it. Developed by Ideate Community Consulting, it maps the structural field — who holds leverage, how it moves, and where resident power gets intercepted — then provides concrete tools for building organizations that are harder to broker.

Civic Labs are customized facilitation and engagement experiences that help communities and organizations build stronger connections, clarify shared goals, and turn ideas into action. Rooted in Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD), each Lab is designed to uncover local strengths, activate existing assets, and support collaborative problem-solving. Tailored to the unique needs of each group, Civic Labs create practical pathways for planning, participation, and sustainable community-centered change.

A Half-Day Experience in Shared Responsibility, Mutual Aid, and Civic Action
Most organizations talk about community. Few create the conditions for people to actually experience it. The Agency of Us is a 3.5-to-4-hour interactive experience that moves participants from passive concern to shared action — through guided reflection, asset discovery, and a signature mutual aid simulation called When the Block Needs Us. Rooted in Asset-Based Community Development, the experience confronts a specific problem: frayed responsibility — the quiet habit of treating shared needs as somebody else's job.
Participants leave with more than insight. They leave with named gifts, new relationships, witnessed commitments, and a 30-day follow-up system designed to turn a single experience into lasting civic practice. Designed for groups of 15–25, The Agency of Us is built for nonprofit teams, resident groups, school-community partnerships, cross-sector coalitions, and civic organizations ready to close the gap between caring about community and actually belonging to one.

Unityville: The Community Quest is a hands-on simulation where families build, negotiate, and commit to real outcomes together — not icebreakers, not trust falls. In three hours, participants design schools with impossible trade-offs, negotiate crises under real pressure, sign binding community accords, and write individual commitments that get mailed back to them a week later. Every task produces something physical — a blueprint, a signed agreement, a live performance — because abstraction is the enemy of connection. We bring the full package: printed materials, trained facilitation, and a run of show tuned to your venue and audience. Unityville runs at school family nights, faith community events, neighborhood gatherings, corporate retreats, and municipal engagement sessions for groups of 16–40 participants, scaling from two and a half hours to a full-day experience.

Our workshops and Community Civic Labs are rooted in Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) — a globally recognized approach that starts with what communities already have rather than what they lack. Instead of leading with deficits and problems, we design facilitated experiences that surface the skills, relationships, associations, and resources already present in your neighborhood or organization.
Through hands-on activities like asset mapping, gift discovery, story sharing, offers-and-needs exchanges, and capacity building exercises, participants shift from a service mindset to one of shared ownership and collective power.
Whether you're a nonprofit seeking authentic community engagement, a municipality launching a place-based initiative, a school building stronger neighborhood partnerships, or a foundation investing in health equity and civic infrastructure, our sessions are customized to meet you where you are. Offerings range from focused 2-hour alignment sessions to full-day immersive Community Labs, multi-day training intensives, and facilitator development programs. Every engagement produces tangible deliverables — asset maps, connection directories, strategic synthesis, and clear next steps — so that the energy in the room translates into sustained, community-led action.
